About Hair Extensions

Hair Extension Information

What are hair extensions?

Hair extensions are the fastest way to get hair of a desired length and an excellent method for changing your style entirely.

There are two main factors to consider when it comes to choosing hair extensions.

1. Type of hair (Synthetic or real human hair).

2. Method used to attach the hair.

Different types of hair offer various advantages such as cost, weight of hair, natural look and feel. It is important to weigh these factors when deciding which option to choose.

Even the best quality hair extensions can be spoilt if the attachment method is wrong so it is essential to have suitable hair and attach it correctly.

Should I get synthetic or real human hair extensions?

Synthetic Hair Extensions

The disadvantages are significant in terms of quality of hair - synthetic hair often look unnatural with your own hair and synthetic hair is much heavier than natural hair.

As our real human hair extensions prices are very competitive, there is little point scrimping and choosing synthetic hair extensions.

Human Hair Extensions

Real hair extensions are the more expensive choice, but the extra cost can be easily justified. Human hair provides a natural flow which synthetic hair cannot achieve.

With the correct hair type for extensions and the correct colour, the extensions will be indistinguishable from your own real hair giving hair a naturally longer and/or fuller look.

There are many different types of human hair extensions too. We exclusively use 100% highest quality A-Grade Remy human hair. This ensures that the cuticle layers are all facing in the same direction from root to end and do not tangle. The extensions blend superbly an are easy to maintain even with an active lifestyle.

Hair extension attachment methods and techniques

Many hair extension techniques require a glue or bond for attachment. These methods involve coating your own hair with a chemical or foreign substance. Some glues can be harmful for your own hair think carefully when choosing which method.

Clip in Hair Extensions

Clip in hair extensions are instant. They are fitted at home by the wearer with no need for a stylist.

Clip ins can be straightened, waved, curled or attached as they are. To attach them, your own hair is sectioned and clipped away. The extension strip is clipped into place.

Clip ins should only be used for one night. They have to be taken out at night as leaving them in may cause your own hair to matt.

Micro ring Hair Extensions

Micro rings are possibly the best method of application of hair extensions. A small metal tube is clamped over the real hair to attach extension hair. Good quality micro-rings are light weight with a silicon inner lining to prevent hair extensions from slipping.

Due to the light weight of the rings there is no damage to the roots of your existing hair. Simple removal is achieved by lightly unclamping the micro-rings allowing the extensions to fall out.

Micro-rings are a safe alternative for people with sensitive skin as solvents and adhesive removers are not needed.

Shrinkies Hair Extensions

Shrinkies are keratin protein lined thermal shrink tubing. When heat is applied to the shrinkie, the keratin fuses with the extension and natural hair creating a bond. The tubing shrinks down and protects this bond.

Shrinkies are a durable and long lasting hair extension method. Removal is simple. The bond is reheated, the extension hair and shrinkie removed and any remaining keratin residue is cleaned with an orange oil or an acetone based remover.

Hair extension care

     After Care Advice

  • When you have hair extensions fitted do not wash your hair for 2-3 days, this allows time for the hair and scalp to settle.

  • As like anything new the extensions are firmly fitted to your hair and the first 3 days they may feel a little tender on your scalp and tender while sleeping, this is normal and will settle after 3-5 days, during this time it is best to sleep on your side.

  • Wash your Hair extensions once or twice a week only. If you need to wash the top of your hair (crown and frontal area) more regular this can be done each day

  • It is not advised to tie your hair back in a tight ponytail,as this will cause strain to your natural hair and cause it to break. If you wait around 2 weeks for your hair to settle and grow slightly it will be more comfortable.

  • Never wash or blow dry your hair upside down, it will hurt and pull your hair causing breakage but also this can cause the hair to knot and tangle and never tie towel up around your head.

  • Always Brush out all knots before you wash your hair, swim or sleep. Start at the bottom and work your way up slowly whilst holding/supporting your hair at the top, using your hair extension brush

  • Hair extensions must be removed by a professional hair extension consultant after 3 months. If you leave them in for longer this may put the natural hair under strain from the root.

 FAQ'S ON HAIR EXTENSIONS

  • Will hair extensions damage my hair?
  • I've lost a bond and my hair was in the bond. Has it pulled my hair out?
  • Is it possible to reuse my hair extensions?

A: Every head is different depending on thickness, weather you want a half head or full head and how many colours you require but it should take around 3 - 5 hours. If its easier for you we can have a few breaks.

Q: Can I use straighteners and curling irons on my hair extensions?

A: Yes, style your hair as you would your own using the hottest of straighteners & curling irons.

A: Totally, this is 100% human hair and can be treated exactly the same as your own hair. It is best advised you dye the extensions before you have them fitted or take them out and re apply but if you have a good hairdresser I'm sure they could do minor colouring whilst the hair is in... I've done it.. I had a few highlights from black to brown.

A: Again everyone's hair grows at different rates and depending how many bonds you lose but you shouldn't leave it longer than 3 months.

Q: Will hair extensions damage my hair?
A: No hair extensions are good for your hair and anyone who tells you otherwise is telling fibs, but as there is no glue, sewing or braids involved and there is no damage to your own hair assuming reasonable care is taken.

Q: I lost a bond, my hair is also in the bond. Has it pulled my hair out?
A: Because there is no glue involved it is normal to lose a few bonds. Your hair sheds on a daily basis as part its natural process. It is normal to loose up to 50 hairs a day! Just because you have extensions in does not mean that this process stops. It continues but since your hair is held together by the extensions the hair is trapped in the installation and, therefore, not falling out into your sink or latching on to your comb or brush. The good news is these bonds will be replaced during your maintenance appointment.

Q: Is it possible to reuse my hair extensions?
A: Totally. I do this all the time. As long as you take good care of your extensions you can reuse them for your next application.
